Bluffdale — After approving a transportation-fee resolution, the Bluffdale City Council heard brief staff reports about upcoming community events and directed staff to pursue a targeted review of the city’s fencing ordinance for a specific lot.
Mayor Hall and staff announced that the city’s parade float will appear in this year’s Days of ’47 parade (the city participates every other year) and that a float preview will be held at the Expo Center on Saturday and Monday. Staff also noted a wheelchair-basketball fundraiser on July 31 to support Bluffdale’s adaptive arena and said the musical "Newsies" will be staged in August.
A council member described a constituent’s fence problem in a new subdivision where a lot that formerly was part of a 15-acre parcel now faces a different direction than neighboring lots, creating a conflict with the current fencing ordinance. The member asked planning staff to draft a targeted code amendment to allow more permissive front-yard fencing for that lot and to bring the proposed change to the planning commission for review before returning to council.
A staff speaker summarized the direction as "more permissive front yard fencing is where we're heading," and council members agreed to move forward with staff and the planning commission review. No formal vote on a code amendment took place; the council asked staff to develop language and follow the planning-review process.
Next steps: planning staff will draft the ordinance change, bring it to the planning commission for consideration and return the proposal to council for action if recommended.
