City representative Tim Vandal told the board the high school was more walkable than the alternate site at Bernard Park, reducing parking demand and offering shelter options if a sudden weather event occurred. "We really appreciated the partnership the Board of Education showed us last year by allowing the fireworks to take place at Lansing High School," Vandal said, and asked the board whether they would be open to hosting the event again.
Board members asked whether any damage resulted from last year's event; staff reported only a single bus accident and no other significant facility damage. After brief discussion, a motion to allow the city to use the high school for the fireworks passed 7'0.
Vandal also provided additional city updates including progress on a new pool, staff hiring for pool operations, an upcoming 48-unit apartment project (private developer, state tax credits), and a property under contract for a potential subdivision on East McIntyre. Board members and city staff agreed to continue coordination on logistics for the event and related facility needs.
