The Smyrna City Council voted 5-0 during its 8:04 a.m. meeting to approve a confidential service delivery strategy agreement with Cobb County, the council announced.
City representative Mr. Bennett told the council the cities of Smyrna, Kennesaw, Acworth, Powder Springs, Allstell and Marietta began negotiations with Cobb County ahead of an October 2024 renewal deadline. "The county and cities were unable to come to a mutual agreement and mediation took place in July, where a confidential agreement was reached," Bennett said, and he reported that the county approved the agreement on Aug. 13.
Councilman Lindley moved to approve the agreement "as presented," then thanked the mayor, the city administrator and the city attorney for extensive negotiation time. Miss Hines seconded the motion. The presiding official called the vote; the motion passed 5-0, with Miss Wilkinson and Mr. Welch recorded as not present.
After the vote a speaker said they and two colleagues "got to spend about 20 hours together over two days getting this thing put together," praising legal counsel and partners for their work. The meeting was adjourned at 8:07 a.m.
The agreement and its negotiation were described as confidential in the presentation; the transcript identifies mediation in July and county approval on Aug. 13. The city did not provide further details about the agreement's terms, impacts on services, or any financial implications during the session.
