Members of the Healthy Bluffdale Coalition presented the group’s 2024 strategic plan to the council and asked for community support as they move to implementation.
Brighton Wilson, who identified themself as the coalition chair/facilitator, and Camille Hawkins, a proposed board member, said the coalition used County Health Department data and the SHARPS survey to identify mental health and connection challenges — including higher-than-average Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) scores — and proposed two primary strategies: (1) strengthening healthy connections between families, schools and community and (2) increasing access to services and removing barriers. They said the coalition has received grant funding from the Salt Lake County Health Department to pursue a communities-that-care framework and asked the council and residents to help recruit volunteers and partners to ensure sustainability.
Council members thanked the presenters, noted the county’s support, and flagged that the city should consider long-term sustainability and potential budget implications as the coalition transitions from grant funding to ongoing operations. The coalition said the current grant covers one year with the possibility of renewal for up to three additional years and that more local support may be needed to sustain programming.
