The Oakdale City Council used its Dec. 3 special meeting to recognize outgoing council members, administer oaths of office for incoming officials and conclude with a ceremonial group photo.
Speaker 1 opened a recognition of outgoing members, specifically thanking Council member Amaral for two and a half years of service and praising Council member Fred Smith for four years of work on the council and as a local business owner in Oakdale. "Thank you for committing 2 and a half years of your life to serving our city," Speaker 1 said of Amaral, and later noted, "So I'm upset with you a little bit, but, I know where to find you," in a light-hearted remark to Fred Smith.
Following the acknowledgements, staff invited incoming officeholders to the podium to take the oath of office. Speaker 2 administered the oath and an individual identified in the transcript as Jessica Adams recited, "I, Jessica Adams. Do solemnly swear..." pledging to support and defend the U.S. and California Constitutions and to "well and faithfully discharge the duties upon which I'm about to enter." Speaker 2 offered congratulations afterwards.
The meeting concluded with a roll call noting the seated council included Mayor Pro Tem Smith, Council member Kettering, Council member Gilbert, Council member Potosi (name appears in the transcript as a variant) and Mayor Barrios; Speaker 1 then adjourned the meeting and announced the next meeting date of Monday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.
