Beaumont accepts $1 million HUD grant to close funding gap for Second Street extension

The Beaumont City Council authorized the city manager to execute a $1,000,000 grant agreement with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to close the funding gap for the Second Street extension project.
Jennifer Eustachian, project staff, told council the Economic Development Initiative community project funding secured the allocation and that the grant amount has been included in the FY24/25 capital improvement program budget for the Second Street extension. The project aims to relieve local traffic congestion, improve connectivity and support future growth in the affected area.
Council approved the grant agreement by roll call vote. Staff said execution of the agreement and coordination with federal requirements will follow normal grant-administration procedures.
Next steps: City will finalize the grant documentation, implement procurement and construction planning per grant conditions and return with project milestones and reporting as required by HUD.
