Beaumont council certifies Nov. 5 election, swears in newly elected members

The Beaumont City Council unanimously adopted a resolution on Dec. 9 certifying the results of the Nov. 5, 2024, municipal election and administered oaths to newly elected council members. Nicole Wheelwright, the city clerk, told the council the Riverside County Register of Voters tallied the ballots and presented the certification resolution for adoption.

Chief Tullis, speaking during recognitions, thanked outgoing Mayor David Fenn "for your year of service to the residents of the city of Beaumont" and presented an engraved token on behalf of city police employees. Mayor Fenn thanked staff, pastors and residents for their support during his term.

After the clerk requested a motion to adopt the certification resolution, the council moved and seconded the item and conducted a roll-call vote in which Council member Martinez, Council member White, Council member Voigt, Mayor Pro Tem Lara and Mayor Fenn all answered "Yes." The council adopted the resolution certifying the municipal election results. The staff report listed the successful candidates as "Julio Martinez" and "David Fenn." Wheelwright noted the staff report and tally from the Riverside County Register of Voters were included in the agenda packet.

Following adoption of the resolution, the clerk administered the statutory oath of office. The oath recited by the new member referenced support for and defense of the U.S. Constitution and the Constitution of the State of California and included the customary pledge to discharge duties faithfully. Colleagues exchanged congratulations after the oath was administered.

The resolution referenced in the staff report appeared as "resolution 20 20 four-twelve" in the clerk's presentation and is included in the meeting packet. No public comments were received on the item.

The meeting moved on to reorganization items after the certification and oath of office.
