Council approves Advantage Ambulance permit; city clarifies it won’t replace 911 contractor

The Beaumont City Council unanimously approved an automobile-for-hire permit Dec. 17 for Advantage Ambulance, allowing the company to operate from 875 West Fourth Street in Beaumont’s manufacturing zone.
Katie Jensen, planning staff, said the application (Plan 2024-0130) met zoning requirements and that ambulances are a permitted use in the manufacturing zone under Beaumont Municipal Code Chapter 17.030.12. Staff recommended approval after reviewing submitted documentation.
Council members asked how Advantage would interact with existing emergency-response contractors and 911 dispatch. An attendee representing Advantage said the company is contracted only with San Gorgonio Hospital and that emergency 911 transport contracts in Riverside County are held by AMR; Advantage will perform interfacility transfers and non-911 transports rather than primary 911 responses. "So with the Advantage Ambulance, they're only contracted with San Gorgonio Hospital," the representative said.
Council moved, seconded and approved the permit by roll call (Councilmembers Fenn, Martinez, White, Mayor Pro Tem Voigt and Mayor Lara voting yes).
What comes next: The approved applicant must obtain a certificate of occupancy and a business license before operating from the proposed address, per staff direction.
