Menands trustees outline $300K-plus building improvements, approve generator purchase for water plant

At the Aug. 5 meeting, Menands Village trustees discussed a broader package of building improvements and approved a lower-cost replacement plan for the water-plant generator.
Speaker 2 said the village is preparing a funding request to Assemblyman Phil Steck for about $250,000 toward a package of improvements estimated at roughly $314,000, which would include roof repairs, a new fire-alarm system, masonry work, removal of a former hose tower, access-control and security upgrades, and automatic doors to improve handicap access. "I am going to ask Assemblyman's Deck for 250,000, of that 314, and the village's part of that would be $64,000," Speaker 2 said, describing the proposed request.
Separately, trustees approved a split buy-and-install approach to replace a 30-year-old generator at the water plant. Castleman Electric provided a single-vendor quote of about $26,225; opting to purchase the equipment separately from Power Generators Direct and contract Castleman for installation reduced the combined cost to about $18,400. Speaker 2 described the lower-cost option and Speaker 6 moved to authorize the purchases and installation.
Speaker 2 also reported Lavella and village staff are completing a lead-service inventory intended to meet an October compliance deadline; once inventory work is complete, the village will seek grant funding to replace lead service lines.
Staff said they will return with the formal funding request documents and engineered proposals at future meetings for trustee consideration.
