Council approves three-year SRO agreement with local high school district

The Watervliet City Council voted to approve a three-year memorandum of understanding to provide a school resource officer (SRO) to the local high school under a contract covering Sept. 1, 2024, through Aug. 31, 2027. The council moved and seconded the resolution and advanced it during the meeting.
City staff said the SRO arrangement is similar to prior agreements and that the cost for the program will increase from $60,000 in the earlier arrangement to $75,000 for this contract period. The SRO will provide five-day-per-week coverage under the terms described by staff.
Council did not record additional amendments to the MOU on the floor during the meeting. The council approved the resolution and authorized the mayor to execute the agreement as presented.
The MOU will be processed administratively and the city will work with the school district on implementation details and scheduling for the officer’s coverage.
