The Depoe Bay Planning Commission approved a geotechnical-report review Dec. 11 for a proposed home by Chad Newblock Homes LLC, subject to one administrative condition: the geotechnical report must be stamped by a licensed engineering geologist.
Staff said the applicant’s submitted geotechnical report was stamped by a geotechnical engineer rather than by an engineering geologist, which the city's land-use code requires for this type of review. "The only missing piece from the geotechnical report" was the correct stamp, staff said, and the standard pre- and post-construction certification requirements remained in place.
Brian Joyce, representing the applicant, testified about the house plans and the mechanical layout and signaled willingness to meet the condition. Staff and the commission discussed standard follow-up: the city’s building inspector and the engineering geologist will provide sign-offs as project milestones are met.
The commission moved to approve the staff recommendations, including the requirement that a qualified engineering geologist stamp the final geotechnical report. The chair announced the motion carried.
