Angola hearing ends early: Donald Thomas found ineligible for parole after recent write-up

The Committee on Parole concluded a scheduled parole consideration at Louisiana State Penitentiary (Angola) Dec. 11 after staff reported Donald Thomas (DOC #96716) had a recent disciplinary write-up that made him ineligible for parole review.
Chair Cheryl Renantz read Thomas’s sentence and classification into the record: aggregate sentences totaling 149 years from convictions in St. Landry Parish, including armed robbery and an attempted second-degree murder sentence. Thomas confirmed his parole eligibility date (Aug. 1, 2021) and that he does not earn good time.
Deputy Ward Rochelle Ambo and classification staff provided institutional history. Ward Nambo reported that Thomas has six disciplinary reports, with the most recent write-up recorded 08/22/24 for an aggravated fight (rule 11). The panel applied the requirement that a person must be write-up free for 36 months to be considered for parole; based on the recent write-up, Chair Renantz stated Thomas was not eligible for parole consideration at this time and concluded the hearing.
The panel thanked local staff for accommodating the visit and adjourned the Angola portion of the session at about 09:40 a.m.
