The Hiawatha School Board voted to renew a two-year lease with the Miwok Baseball/Softball Club for continued use of the Robinson Center.
Ryan Meinder, president of the Miwok Baseball/Softball Club, told the board the club is proposing to keep the lease rate the same as in the prior two years — $13,000 per year, invoiced annually — and described expanded, coach-approved access for high school players to use the facility outside team practice times at no additional charge. Meinder said the club is pursuing fundraising and architectural plans for a dedicated softball field; he asked the board for a letter of support and city assistance with utilities, permits and personnel. Meinder said the city had given support for the softball field project but had not agreed to provide water and electricity without a lease change.
A board member asked whether the new lease differed from the old lease in any substantive way beyond the dates; staff confirmed the primary change was the extension of dates. A motion to approve the two-year lease was moved and seconded, and the board approved the motion by voice vote, recorded as 7-0.
Next steps: Meinder asked to sign the lease later in the week; staff said they would coordinate and circulate the signed copy.
