LCAR adopts 2025 calendar; staff to seek clarification on member terms and remote participation

Members raised questions about continuity of membership when legislators leave office. Staff told the committee the statute sets two‑year terms ending Feb. 1 of the odd‑numbered year following appointment but said staff would seek clarification from the secretary of the senate and the house clerk about what happens if successors have not been appointed. One committee member summarized common practice: appointees generally continue until replaced, but the statute is silent in some respects and the committee will request written guidance.
Members also discussed whether a joint resolution extending remote participation (in effect through calendar year 2024) would be renewed for 2025; staff said they would follow up. The committee moved and approved the calendar by voice vote and adjourned.
