Lenexa council approves 3‑year special use permit for Shoot 360 basketball training

The Lenexa City Council on Monday approved a three‑year special use permit for Shoot 360, a basketball training facility proposed at 17255 College Boulevard in the BP-2 planned manufacturing district.

Stephanie Sullivan of the Community Development Department described the proposal as a "personal instruction general use" and clarified for council members, "it's basketball training not a shooting range," noting the tenant space is about 19,000 square feet. Staff told council the proposed tenant area would be served by roughly 33 parking spaces and that, with the building’s current occupancy pattern, staff had no concerns about parking or traffic generated by this use. The planning commission and staff recommended approval for a standard three‑year permit.

Sullivan said the proposal includes a maximum of 30 trainees and five staff, with general hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Council asked a staff representative and the applicant whether the parking supply and dock areas would be adequate; staff said the yellow parking area in the plans would fulfill the tenant’s parking requirement.

Council passed the ordinance to approve the three‑year special use permit by voice vote (motion by Craig, second by Mark). The permit was approved with the standard three‑year duration and no additional conditions, per staff recommendation.

The approval allows Shoot 360 to operate under the city's special use permit process; any future changes to operations, capacity, or hours would require additional review if they fall outside the approved conditions.
