County Council keeps library county aid flat; library system to continue contracts with major vendors

Annie told the board that County Council approved the county budget at its Dec. 11 meeting and that library services county funding will be flat for 2025. "Library services, county funding will be flat, and direct monetary support to the libraries in the form of county aid was approved at 100000 dollars again for 2025," she said, and noted these funds are typically dispersed in late summer or early fall.
She also reported that council approved continuing service contracts with several vendors that support countywide services: NewsBank, EBSCO, interlibrary delivery service, OverDrive, and others (Annie listed A to Z Databases, Envisionware, Libcow, McNaughton, WorldShare, ProQuest, Wise Financial, Mobile Beacon, and Innovative). Annie said these services cover databases, newspaper access, event calendars, hotspots, computer-management software and the circulation system, and that funding comes from both county and state dollars.
A board member asked whether the Rethinking Libraries process might yield opportunities to request additional funds; Annie said no proposals were yet ready but the task force's recommendations will prompt future conversations about funding.
