The Boyle County Fiscal Court read and adopted a proclamation designating October 2024 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and declaring October (day) 2024 as Domestic Violence Awareness Day.

Ashley Edwards, identified in the meeting as the county’s victim advocate, described this evening’s awareness event at Weiser Grove Park (4:30–6:30 p.m.), noting partner organizations Ampersand and Greenhouse 17, speakers who are survivors, food trucks and a children’s bounce house.
Court members commended Ashley’s work and encouraged members of the community to attend and support survivors. The court voted to adopt the proclamation by voice vote.
The proclamation text (as read in open session) states that October was first declared National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in 1989, that domestic violence affects people across ages and demographics, and it includes an asserted statistic read into the record: "On average, 20 people, men and women, are physically abused by an intimate partner every minute." The court also noted Kentucky’s high intimate-partner violence rates as cited in the proclamation.
