Addison County RPC approves minutes and treasurer's report; hears broadband and committee updates

Chair Joe called for a motion to approve the Sept. 11 minutes; a motion was made, a second was given and the chair announced: "The ayes have it," carrying the motion. Later, Adam presented the commission's financials through Aug. 31 for fiscal year 2025. Adam summarized the first two months showed roughly $161,000 in revenues and described an early‑year deficit of about $32,000 he attributed to billing timing; he also said total equity remains strong at roughly $400,000, including about $90,000 from last year. A motion to approve the treasurer's report was made by Steve Ravel and seconded by Jeremy; the commission approved the report by voice vote.
Committee and partner reports followed. The Act 250 committee noted an upcoming joint meeting with the Energy Commission to discuss certificate‑of‑public‑good issues. The Energy Committee reported on the enhanced energy plan, the recent energy fair and MURP application updates. In an update on Maple Broadband, commissioners said most ARPA funding has been spent and the project is now focused on BEAD grant opportunities and a potential $2 million borrowing plan to complete county build‑out; Maple reported roughly 448 customers currently connected.
Staffing updates included partner Fred Kenny's announcement that a new office manager will start Oct. 21, and recognition that RPC staff member Darren Rickson has taken another job and the commission is recruiting to fill his responsibilities. Adam reminded commissioners about a short survey being collected for a legislative report connected to recent housing and regional planning acts and extended the response deadline.
The commission adjourned and will meet next on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.
