Regional planning commission announces three new planners starting Jan. 6

Staff reported that three new planners have accepted offers and will start Jan. 6: Jolien Larsen as energy planner (PhD), Rebecca Elder (formerly Starksboro town administrator) as a community planner, and Danelle Barong to support housing and outreach.
Adam, speaking for commission staff, told members the regional planning commission has extended offers to three planners who are expected to start Jan. 6. He said Jolien Larsen, a newly minted Ph.D. from UVM, will serve as the energy planner; Rebecca Elder, most recently the town administrator in Starksboro and with a background in graphic design, will support community planning and coordination; and Danelle Barong, a longtime resident with recent experience as a realtor and local project management background, will work on housing and outreach.
Adam said the offers are at the oral-agreement stage pending final paperwork and reference checks but that he is confident the hires will be completed. Commissioners welcomed the hires and signaled they expect the new planners to play central roles on Act 181 housing mapping work, municipal energy assessments and public outreach.
The commission said the new energy planner will also help the energy committee and work on priority items such as assessing municipal building energy improvements. No formal vote was required for the hiring update; staff will complete onboarding and share further onboarding details as they are finalized.
