Kansas State updates camera and access-control rollout, reports 111 cameras installed

Kansas State representatives briefed the Board of Regents on steps to centralize campus security systems, consolidate multiple camera platforms and expand card-access installations.
"As of yesterday, we have installed 111 cameras across campus and also 11 the Salina cameras," a campus security presenter told regents while describing a vendor-implemented system transcribed as "DuCarda." Staff said the School of Education is the current beta site and that other renovated or new buildings will be added as part of a phased rollout.
An access-control administrative position has been created to oversee cameras and card access once filled. Staff described the long-term goal as moving disparate systems into one platform so that when older servers are retired campuses will migrate onto the new system.
Officials also described thresholds for automated security measures at events. The presenter described a threshold figure of 5,000 for ASM (automated security measures) use at athletic events, and said campus police currently have access to roughly 90% of cameras across the system.
Board members discussed installation challenges in older buildings and the importance of communicating with impacted units as systems come online. Staff emphasized the need to align policy, server transitions and staffing to complete the consolidation.
