Owensboro confirms board and personnel appointments and issues community updates

The Owensboro Board of Commissioners on Sept. 3 approved a slate of board and personnel appointments and used its communications segment to highlight community events.
Appointments approved included reappointment of Dr. Rosalind Clark and appointment of Dr. Wanda Figueroa to the Alliance for Drug Free Owensboro and candidates to the Human Relations Commission, Owensboro River Port Authority and the Senior Citizen Center board. Mayor read the names on the record and the commission approved the appointments by voice vote.
Personnel actions approved included probationary and regular appointments: Elijah Anderson (sanitation refuse truck driver), Ted Johnston (fire lieutenant for training), Luke Cecil (fire captain), Kevin Klob (driver engineer), Catherine Phelps (assistant telecommunicator) and Norman Lang (lead telecommunicator). The city manager presented the list and the commission approved the personnel motions by voice vote.
In other business the mayor and commissioners highlighted a major economic development announcement involving Swedish Match and praised local workforce and community initiatives. The city manager announced that the city will publish condensed budget and audit digests to make large documents more digestible and confirmed upcoming events: the 2024 Special Olympics State Softball Tournament at Jack Fisher Park and an air show with bridge closures and logistics to be posted on the event website.
