Owensboro approves $145,000 purchase at 919 Cedar for planned Station 1 replacement

The Board of Commissioners voted Aug. 6 to authorize the purchase of property at 919 Cedar Street for $145,000 as part of the Operation Firehouse program to design and build a replacement Station 1.
City staff explained the parcel is contiguous to two city-owned former residential properties north of the site and is needed to provide the turning radius and space for drive-through apparatus bays in a modern Station 1 design. The acquisition was described as the last parcel required to provide the space needed to build an appropriately sized facility and headquarters station.
"This acquisition will be the last to provide the space required to build a modern and appropriately sized facility and headquarters station," the city manager said, noting funding for the purchase is available in the project budget.
The city manager also summarized Operation Firehouse as a multiyear investment that includes recent renovation of Station 2, construction of a new fire training center and an upcoming replacement for Station 3. Commissioners voted in favor of the real estate purchase by voice vote.
No purchaser financing details beyond the $145,000 price and confirmation that funding is available in the project budget were provided in the meeting record.
