Fiscal court proclaims Vet Jam Day, recognizes teacher of the year and parks volunteers

During the Sept. 17 meeting the court took time for community recognitions. The judge and members presented Scott Johnson, a teacher at Red Cross Elementary, who spoke about his STEAM program and recent selection as a Kentucky teacher of the year. Johnson described classroom projects including 3-D printing and agricultural education for students.
The court also read and signed a proclamation declaring Sept. 21, 2024 as Barren County Vet Jam Day — the 18th annual event — noting proceeds support the Freedom Warriors Community Veterans Organization. Members planned a photo opportunity before a brief closed session.
Separately the court accepted remarks from a Babe Ruth commissioner who commended Parks & Rec staff and volunteers for 25 years of support and discussed the region-wide reach of the youth baseball and softball programs. Court members reiterated event dates and encouraged community attendance at upcoming parades, pep rallies and cleanup events.
