Barren County approves bids to widen Beech Tree Lane, repairs and other roadwork

Barren County Fiscal Court on Sept. 17 approved initial steps on several transportation projects, including a bid to ready Beech Tree Lane for future widening and a motion to improve the Mount Pleasant Road entrance.
The transportation committee reported it has secured right-of-way to widen Beech Tree Lane and recommended using a dozer to push trees back as the most cost-effective method. The court accepted Kevin Wood Excavating’s bid for $13,500 to perform excavating and tree removal work; the transcript records the motion, a second and voice approval. Committee members said the excavation work is the first phase and that state or legislative funds would be needed next year to complete paving and shoulder work.
Because the excavation will involve heavy equipment and temporary lane closures, the court said the road will be closed during daytime working hours and reopened at night; the committee estimated the work could take up to four to five days but possibly less. The court also approved replacing a fence damaged by the right-of-way work, awarding that contract to Terry Fencing for $9,245 after multiple bids were considered.
Separately, the court adopted an agreed order to allow the county to use part of church-owned land to improve the entrance from Mount Pleasant Road onto Roseville Road; that motion was moved by Mr. Pedigo and seconded by Mr. Botts and carried by voice vote. Officials said the Mount Pleasant entrance work is expected to improve safety at a blind pullout and may lead to future paving projects when additional funds become available.
Court members urged patience from residents living along the affected routes and said they will post closures on county social media.
