County hears airport report: runway lighting, new entrance and master plan progress

Rob Coel told the court the new runway and approach lighting — a safety priority — is nearly finished and that the project was 100% state‑funded. He said the previous lighting made nearby street lights appear brighter than the runway when approaching from the west, and the new system substantially improves safety for pilots. Coel also outlined progress on a new county entrance road to the airfield, new hangar construction, and three‑phase power installed by RECC to serve the site.
County and airport staff are coordinating a business and master plan and aligning it with the county’s comprehensive land‑use mapping to avoid duplicative purchases of data and avoid spending taxpayer dollars twice. Coel emphasized increasing community use of the airport for education, events and tours and thanked county and federal partners for funding and lobbying support.
No formal court action was required; the court acknowledged the update and expressed appreciation.
