Madison County panel approves waiver allowing Jamal Vineyard up to four major events a year

Madison County — The planning body voted to approve a parking waiver for Jamal Vineyard, allowing the agribusiness to host up to four "major events" a year under conditions to address safety and access. Applicant representatives told the commission the site is a working winery and cattle farm and that events would be scheduled in drier months.

The request was framed as consistent with the county's land-use plan and capacity statements in the applicant packet. An agent described existing gravel drives, large grass parking areas, and a recent trial run using temporary lighting that ‘‘worked great'', saying attendees cleared the site quickly after the event.

Commissioners and several members of the public pressed the applicant on emergency-vehicle access and event scale. One commissioner noted, "They're only gonna have 4 events per year," while a commenter raised that some concerts had parked attendees on grass and drew crowds estimated at thousands. The commission discussed adding a review date; one member recommended revisiting the waiver in two years.

The motion to approve was made, seconded and recorded on the public record; several commissioners answered "Yes" during the roll call. The approval was accompanied by instructions that the applicant return with details on ingress/egress and any required state approvals for highway entrances before permanent site alterations.

Next steps: the applicant must supply final site details and the commission will monitor compliance and the agreed review interval.
