The Morrow County Board of Commissioners approved staff recommendations to submit discretionary and state transportation grant applications to expand transit service in and from Boardman.
Transit staff described a TIP discretionary application to expand the Boardman fixed-route network (aiming to shorten route loops to roughly 15–20 minute headways between buses and add 7-day service), and a separate state grant proposal to create a Boardman–The Dalles–Arlington connector that would link local service to regional routes such as the Columbia Gorge Express.
Staff said the discretionary application requests consideration for a 10% local match (the county intends to use transit formula funds, not general-fund dollars, for the match). The requested funding would cover operations, insurance, preventive maintenance, fuel and additional driver salaries to support expanded frequency and weekend service.
Commissioners moved, seconded and approved submitting the TIP discretionary application and the state connector application by voice votes. Staff noted some application fields will be polished before final submission and that the deadlines are imminent.
The board also accepted an awarded Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs reimbursement grant of about $45,000 to support veteran transportation for authorized medical appointments; the veterans grant requires quarterly reporting of rider and trip information under the grant terms.
