During the policy-review portion of the Littlestown Area SD meeting, Doctor Merriman led discussion of several district policies and how they will map to PSBA templates. On Policy 201 (enrollment ages), staff said the district will retain its current age cutoffs: children must be 5 years old by Aug. 31 to begin kindergarten and 6 years old by Aug. 31 to begin first grade. "So our policy has the kids have to be 5 year old by August 31," Doctor Merriman said. The board indicated no substantive change beyond formatting the policy into the PSBA template.
Policy 202 addresses eligibility for nonresident students. Doctor Merriman described updates to ensure access for military families and students experiencing educational instability, noting these provisions align with requirements referenced in the transcript as "Act 1." The district will keep an existing practice that prospective residents building homes must move into the district within six months and provide documentation (mortgage or land-sale papers); the board can grant extensions or require tuition and may bring difficult cases back for board consideration.
On immunizations and communicable-disease policy, presenters said there were no substantive changes but that responsibility for monitoring immunizations would be delegated to the school nurse, with the superintendent's designee overseeing compliance with student health documentation. "The designee to monitor immunizations would go under the school nurse," Doctor Merriman said. For Policy 031 on HIV infections, committee notes indicate no content changes but the designation of a screening team under the superintendent or deputy.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about residency documentation and policy language. Staff will carry the district's existing residency and enrollment rules into the PSBA-format policies and bring back any necessary clarifications; no formal votes on these policy updates are recorded in the transcript.
