At Wednesday’s meeting the Crook County Commission addressed several time‑sensitive administrative items: acceptance of a local Measure 402 deflection grant, a letter to OSU Extension about personnel arrangements, and a comment letter on an old‑growth land‑management direction.
A county representative asked commissioners to sign paperwork to accept the second half of a $150,000 Measure 402 deflection grant the county is pursuing in partnership with the district attorney and sheriff’s office to set up a deflection program in response to legislative decriminalization changes. Staff said the grant had been approved by a local justice panel and only required county signatures to accept the funds; commissioners expressed general support and requested copies and timelines.
The commission also considered a proposed letter to Nicole Strong, regional director of OSU Extension, notifying the university that Crook County intends to keep extension personnel as county employees rather than transfer those positions to OSU. Commissioner (Speaker 9) moved to sign the letter and the motion passed by voice vote. Staff said the signed letter should be sent today.
Separately, commissioners reviewed and approved a template letter to federal managers asking that counties be included in a national old‑growth land‑management amendment and directed staff to send the letter before the comment deadline (quoted in the meeting as the 27th). That motion was also approved by voice vote.
