Local race organizer reports past security incident, seeks county coordination for fall event

He recounted a previous safety incident: "somebody came through the June breakers with guns in the truck and forced their way through one of our road crossings," and said that, after consulting with the sheriff’s office, organizers will use a different (back) entry route and post two security personnel at road crossings for the next event.
Joe said the group holds a 10-year permit from the Bureau of Land Management and that the races began in 02/2020 with two events per year; he described event size (47 cars at the last race, support crews amounting to about 250 people, typical maximum 50 cars) and said current signups were lower but he expected about 40 cars. He asked about county participation for parade laps and expressed appreciation for county support.
Commissioners responded positively and asked questions about spectator access and safety; Joe said races are not set up for general spectators and that organizers work to keep people off the course.
No formal county action was taken during the public comment beyond the board's encouragement and an invitation to coordinate further with staff if needed.
