Board approves support letter for Crook County Foundation grant; hears personnel and planning updates

The board approved a motion to sign a support letter for the Crook County Foundation’s grant application to the Central Oregon Health Council to support a local holiday food partnership. A commissioner moved, the motion was seconded and the board approved the letter by voice vote.

Separately, staff described an internal personnel promotion: Jamie Berger will move from budget analyst to budget manager to lead long‑range forecasting, performance indicators and GRAMA reporting. Staff said the promotion is within the existing budget and would not increase FTEs; no formal roll call was recorded in the work session summary.

Planning staff and community development provided updates: building permit activity in July was similar to last year (about 28 applications), roughly 1,200 active permits remain open, and several large commercial projects (including the justice center) are near completion. Planning staff also noted the planning commission schedule is booked into the autumn and mentioned a proposed seven‑lot Hidden Canyon subdivision in the Juniper Canyon area.

A commissioner described an arrangement with the local school's construction CTE program to provide materials and labor to repair about $80,000 worth of flooring at the senior center’s Meet Repeat building at no cost to the senior center.

What happens next: the support letter will be signed and distributed as authorized; staff will return with follow‑up materials on the personnel change, planning cases and the senior center renovation work.
