Clay County commissioners adopt tentative $701 million budget, approve proclamations and routine items

At its Sept. 13 meeting the Clay County Board of County Commissioners adopted a tentative $701 million budget and tentative millage, issued proclamations honoring POW/MIA recognition, BASCA Awareness Week and Suicide Prevention Month, approved a number of consent items and procurement actions, and set a final budget hearing for Sept. 27.
The Clay County Board of County Commissioners on Sept. 13 adopted tentative millage rates and a tentative budget totaling $701,000,000 for fiscal year 2022–23 and set a final public hearing for Sept. 27 at 5:05 p.m. The vote to adopt the tentative millage and tentative budget carried unanimously.
Commissioners also approved several proclamations recognizing National POW/MIA Recognition Day (Sept. 16), BASCA Awareness Week (Sept. 18–24) and declaring September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. A veteran and former prisoners-of-war were invited to the dais and honored as part of the POW/MIA proclamation.
On the consent agenda and related items the board: pulled and later approved an amended county fee schedule clarifying public-health inspection fees (including a $0 first reinspection per statute and an Oct. 1 automatic mobility-fee escalator), removed two plats from consent for later consideration, authorized advertisement of the summary of the tentative budget and scheduled the final hearing, and accepted subdivision roads into MSBU maintenance (Willow Springs Phase 3 and Fox Meadows Unit 8A). A county agreement to extend treasury management and checking-account services with Wells Fargo for three years was approved, and the board authorized a $699,000 agreement for build-out services for the Tax Collector’s Middleburg office in the Winn-Dixie shopping center.
Votes recorded in the public record included: unanimous approval of proclamations and routine minutes; unanimous approval of the amended fee schedule; unanimous approval of the fire station property purchase and of the tentative budget and millage; and unanimous approval of the Wells Fargo renewal and tax-collector buildout agreement.
