School board transfers $4.5M for SROs; BCC to pass funds to sheriff for school policing

Commissioners discussed a dedicated fund that will pay for School Resource Officers (SROs) after a transfer from the school board.
A commissioner summarized that the school board's special one-mill levy (which generates roughly $19 million countywide for that purpose) is transferring approximately $4.5 million to the Board of County Commissioners, which will act as a pass-through to the sheriff's department to support the initial implementation of the SRO program.
Staff stated that the transferred amount and carryforward balances were accounted for as part of the sheriff's planned budget for the SRO transition. The board clarified that those ARPA or special-mill dollars are budgeted as an expense to the sheriff and that the BCC is only a conduit for the transferred funds.
No formal action was taken during the workshop; commissioners asked staff to make that funding flow transparent to the public and to confirm the accounting and carryforward figures in the upcoming budget documents.
