Clay County proclaims Aug. 7 Purple Heart Day, honors local recipients

The Clay County Board of County Commissioners unanimously adopted a proclamation naming Aug. 7, 2024, Purple Heart Day in Clay County and recognized local recipients who were present at the July 23 meeting.
Chair introduced the proclamation and asked veterans who had been awarded the Purple Heart to come forward; the board recognized Army Specialist David Treffinger, Army Sergeant Cliff Miller, Navy Lieutenant Commander Dale Bridal, and Marine Corps Sergeant Harry Silvers. Tara Green, clerk and comptroller, attested the proclamation language and the board voted in favor without dissent.
Several veterans addressed the board after the proclamation. David Treffinger and others reflected on service, the meaning of the Purple Heart and the related Agent Orange awareness observance. Commissioners thanked the veterans for their service and invited a brief photo opportunity.
The proclamation will be observed locally on Aug. 7 and will be recorded in the county’s minutes; no additional county action was required beyond the unanimous vote.
