The Martinez Unified School Board moved through several action items at its August meeting, approving policy revisions, schedule changes and personnel-related items.
Consent calendar and contracts: The board approved the consent calendar as amended. Staff described corrections to contract appendices (formula and Appendix B edits) and noted an added contract to immediately hire a TK–2 SDC teacher through BMR Health Services for $129,200 to fill an open special-education position. The consent motion was moved and seconded and the board recorded the student advisory vote as "Aye." The board chair announced the motion passed.
CSBA policy updates: The board adopted the recommended CSBA policy revisions reviewed by the policy committee, with the superintendent noting that more extensive Title IX changes will return for additional review. The board moved and passed the motion to adopt the June/July 2024 CSBA updates.
Meeting dates: After discussion about holiday conflicts, the board voted to change November 2024 meeting dates to Nov. 4 and Nov. 18 and May 2025 meeting dates to May 5 and May 19.
Adult education job descriptions: The board approved revised job descriptions for Martinez Adult Education, including a job developer and a HiSET/GED test-prep teacher.
Local assignment resolution (Ed. Code 44263): Assistant Superintendent Janelle Ayat brought forward Resolution 2025-03 authorizing a local assignment under Education Code 44263 for a single-subject credential holder with 18 semester hours in the assigned subject. Ayat said the action corrects a misassignment identified in the district’s misassignment report; the board adopted the resolution for one year as allowed by Ed. Code 44263.
Votes and procedure: Most items passed after motions and seconds; the student board member’s advisory vote was recorded when requested. Specific roll-call tallies were not read into the record for every motion in the transcript; the minutes record successful passage of the listed items.
What’s next: Items that were informational only, such as the workforce-housing exploration and apprenticeship pay-rate discussion, will return for future action or additional review where appropriate.
