Martinez Unified board swears in new trustees and elects 2025 officers

The Martinez Unified School District board of trustees opened its Dec. 16 meeting by administering oaths of office to newly elected trustees, then completed its annual reorganization for calendar year 2025.
Mayor Chanel Scales Preston administered the oath to Logan Campbell, Courtney Marcella O’Brien and Annie Horak Martin. Each new trustee thanked voters and supporters at the dais.
After returning to open session the board elected Tanya Brugger as board president, Annie Horak Martin as vice president and Logan Campbell as clerk. Superintendent Helen Rossi was appointed board secretary as required by board bylaw. The board also established committee assignments — including the City/School Brown Act committee, curriculum advisory committee, LCAP budget advisory committee, DEI and facilities liaisons — and confirmed meeting dates in a draft governance calendar that will be finalized after a CSBA-facilitated workshop in February.
Board members emphasized outreach to solicit committee volunteers and alternates and discussed a proposed change to how policy updates are shared (a highlight or guide sheet in the board packet to call out revisions). The reorganizational votes passed by voice.
The board adjourned at 8:48 p.m. after routine closing remarks and holiday greetings.
