Downtown Partners outlines holiday events, grants and downtown improvements

Cody reviewed board appointments and staffing, summarized grant-supported storefront improvements (52 projects funded since February 2018, project costs roughly $500,000 with Downtown Partners grants of more than $120,000), and described new promotional efforts such as Rise and Dine (11 participating restaurants) and a storefront decorating competition.
Cody also previewed Downtown for the Holidays on Nov. 25, including an expanded parade with 89 entries, a 3 p.m. series of family-friendly open houses and a 6:15 p.m. parade start. New measures this year include an accessible viewing area coordinated with the convention center and a sensory room for attendees who may need a quiet space.
On placemaking and infrastructure, Downtown Partners discussed a potential skywalk lighting pilot between Central Bank and the Ho-Chunk Center on Nebraska Street and partnership conversations about possible block-by-block bike lane demonstrations. Cody said the organization will continue outreach with city staff and community partners as projects develop.
Councilmembers thanked Downtown Partners for event planning and asked staff to continue coordination around parade logistics and accessibility features.
