Chris McGowan of the Siouxland Initiative presented the organization’s annual report and summarized its near-term priorities and funding posture. "We have been without that position for over 2 years... Number 1, we're still focused on workforce... Number 2, we've partnered with you on some land acquisition... Number 3, quality of life," McGowan said.
McGowan told the council about a separate insert to the annual report showing recent state rankings on fiscal responsibility and noted that 80% of Siouxland Initiative funds come from the private sector and about 20% from public partners. He said Woodbury County and South Sioux City financially participate and that the Initiative will undertake an "aggressive fundraising campaign" in the next 12 months to respond to revenue impacts from employer changes.
Marty Doherty, Economic and Community Development, introduced the presentation and said the council had requested the briefing following a prior agenda item. Council members asked about workforce development goals and whether the Initiative plans to restore a previously funded workforce development position; McGowan said workforce remains a priority but staffing decisions reflect revenue constraints.
The presentation was informational; council did not take formal action during the briefing.
