Sioux City issues proclamations for Red Ribbon Week and Lights On After School Day

Mayor Robert E. A Siouxland CARES representative thanked the council and offered red ribbons and data booklets to members, saying prevention ties to economic stability, education, health and safety. "When we can do that, we can support a happy, healthy, drug free community," the representative told the council.
The council also proclaimed Oct. 24, 2024, as Lights On After School Day, noting the national celebration’s goal to spotlight the importance of quality after-school programs. The proclamation cited national participation and local commitments to expanded learning to help close achievement gaps. Mayor Scott encouraged communities to support local after-school offerings.
No formal action was required for either proclamation; both were presented as recognitions and supported by the council.
