Bucks County creates Fire Service Advisory Board to unify volunteer and career chiefs

The Bucks County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution establishing a Fire Service Advisory Board intended to give volunteer and career fire leaders a unified voice on training, strategic planning and operational coordination.
George Wilson introduced the proposal, and chiefs from across the county — including Chief Adam Selzker, Chief Scott Fleischer and Chief Tim Brewer — described a changing landscape of volunteer declines and growing career staffing in parts of the county. They told commissioners the new advisory board will address training-center needs, operational issues and collaboration with county emergency management and the communications center.
Officials described the board’s makeup as seven voting members: four volunteer fire chiefs elected by their peers (one from each fire district) and three career fire chief officers elected by the career chiefs’ association. Proponents said the board has already begun meeting informally and has produced early successes on communication and incident support.
Commissioners moved to approve the resolution creating the advisory board and voted in favor; no dissent was recorded.
The resolution tasks the board with advising on firefighter training and operational coordination; commissioners and county emergency management staff said they will support implementation and further collaboration with the county’s training programs.
