District moves registration up and outlines recruitment plan for full-day kindergarten

LaRoya said the campaign will begin with a November preschool-directors preview, move registration up to January (instead of February), deploy paid social and print ads, and maintain monthly orientation communications for families who register. She outlined a possible May 1 "decision day" incentive for families who register early and described options ranging from postcard mailings to targeted lists for preschool households.
Board members asked about capturing preschool origin information on registration and about staffing timelines. One board member warned May might be too late to hire given hold periods for teachers moving between districts; district staff replied the aim is to market openings in April and have May 1 as the latest target to post positions. Staff also noted some kindergarten openings will be filled internally, reducing the number of outside hires needed.
LaRoya said the district has been socializing full-day kindergarten with PTOs and other stakeholders to identify community champions and broaden outreach. She invited feedback and noted several implementation details (screenings, orientations, "sneak peeks") remain to be finalized.
Next steps: Communications will roll out beginning November; registration opens in January; district intends to have staffing posted by April/May and to report back as plans solidify.
