Patton scheduling committee to recommend master-schedule changes by May 2025

The Curriculum, Instruction & Technology committee heard Oct. 14 that a representative committee has been working on middle-school master-schedule options for Patton Middle School and will recommend a schedule to the board by May 2025.
District presenters said the review began in 2023–24, involves teachers, administrators, parents, students and several board members, and is guided by three priorities: strengthening student–teacher relationships, increasing student agency in learning and achieving equitable allocation of instructional time. Presenters emphasized trade-offs because the district cannot increase daily minutes.
Dr. Steve Dissinger, Patton Middle School principal, told the group the committee examined about 15 schedules from comparable districts and is drafting models that incorporate key features the committee expects to recommend. Staff said the committee will continue to collect feedback and share draft schedules with the full committee before a May recommendation.
Board members also discussed coordinating schedule recommendations with a February board decision on the school’s physical plant (feasibility or design). Several members said schedule choices should inform architects if the board favors renovation or replacement; presenters agreed the two processes should proceed in parallel so scheduling work can inform possible design decisions.
Next steps: Committee will continue research, produce draft schedules for committee review, gather stakeholder feedback and return to the board with a recommendation and implementation timeline in May 2025. No vote was taken during the meeting.
