The study team — composed of board members, administrative staff, and consultants (Murata Maine) — has held staff focus groups and a community conversation attended by about 40 people. The district will post study materials on the facilities page of the district website and distribute a community survey prior to the next outreach event.
Key dates staff provided: a December 9 community presentation when Murata Maine will share draft options and trade‑offs; a special board meeting on Jan. 6 to present an administrative recommendation; and a Feb. 18 board vote to decide whether to maintain, renovate, or replace the middle school. The superintendent told the board there is no inexpensive option and estimated capital costs would be in the millions, but noted the district’s favorable fiscal position — including declining debt service on the high school and refinancing opportunities in 2026 — that make any of the three options financially feasible under the Act 1 index.
No board decision was required at the Oct. 14 work session; staff said they will continue study‑team meetings and public engagement between now and the January recommendation.
