Unionville-Chadds Ford board unanimously appoints Gabriel Savage as Copson Elementary principal

Dr. Simonson moved to approve the appointment as agenda item 3.10, describing Savage as the district’s top candidate after more than 40 applicants; the motion was seconded and carried in a voice vote recorded by the chair as passing 9-0. The appointment package calls for a 260-day contract with a salary of $169,900, effective on or before Sept. 16, 2024.
Superintendent Dr. Sandoval and several board members praised Savage’s interview performance and cited his administrative experience at Wallingford-Swarthmore and Radnor schools. "He presented himself as our number 1 candidate," Sandoval said during the meeting.
Savage addressed the board after the vote, saying the process was "very humbling" and thanking "the board and superintendent Sandoval and honestly, the interview committee" for the thorough selection. He added, "I look so forward to meeting the staff, to meeting the kids, to meeting the families, and really start to build those relationships." Savage said he expects to begin engaging with the school community starting July 30.
The board’s action closed the personnel item taken as part of the superintendent’s report and was followed by brief board welcomes and remarks to the district’s retirees.
