President Cronenberg called the Kennett Consolidated School District Board of School Directors’ reorganization meeting to order Dec. 2 and opened nominations for temporary president. Dr. Garrett nominated Mister Finnegan, who was elected temporary president by acclamation. Finnegan then presided as the board reelected Mister Cronenberg as president by acclamation and elected Doctor Garrett as vice president, also by acclamation.
The board adopted its 2025 regular meeting schedule as recommended: the second Monday of each month (no meeting in August), with the December meeting on the first Monday at 7 p.m., to be held at the Mary D. Lyon Kindergarten Center. Doctor McVay moved the motion and the board carried it by voice vote; no opposition or abstentions were recorded. The board also established standing committee meeting dates, pairing communications with finance and policy with curriculum, and approved an amendment changing the curriculum committee start time from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Routine procedural items were approved. The board accepted meeting minutes for Nov. 11, the Nov. 18 workshop, and the Nov. 25 curriculum committee meeting after motions and voice votes. A student trip to the American Choral Directors Association National Honor Choir in Dallas, presented by Kennett High School choir director Ryan Batten and involving students Evan Roumignani and Natalie Jeffrey, was approved under board policy 121.
In new business the board approved two personnel-related addenda — described by administration as a second addendum to a waiver agreement and a first addendum to a settlement agreement with parents — but the presenters said the addenda’s contents were confidential and could not be discussed in public. The board also approved the district’s annual list of student activity account representatives and advisors (noting the list covers the clubs with accounts, not every club).
The meeting concluded with routine calendar items and holiday remarks; committee assignments for 2025 will be announced at the January meeting.
The board’s votes at the meeting were taken by voice; when the clerk called for “all in favor,” members responded “aye,” and no votes against or abstentions were recorded in the public minutes.
