Facilities staff told the board that New Garden Elementary is on schedule and on budget (steel and concrete largely in place), Mary D. Lang roofing and HVAC work continues, and Greenwood’s playground and septic work are complete; a Greenwood groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled Friday at 10 a.m.
Facilities staff updated the Kennett Consolidated School District board on Nov. 11 about multiple construction and maintenance projects across the district.
“ New Garden Elementary School is progressing on time and on budget,” Facilities staff said, reporting that steel framing and concrete walls are approximately 75% complete, roof decking is under way and webcams will be installed to allow the public to follow progress. The speaker noted CHA and Breslin Architects conducted a site tour for board members and described the public and two-story educational wings.
At Mary D. Lang, roofing punch-list items and auxiliary gym window installations remain; the district expects roofing work to be completed by month’s end and then to secure a 30-year warranty from the roofing contractor. Three large rooftop HVAC units for Mary D. Lang are in production with a scheduled delivery for Dec. 23; installation will require a large crane and may shift to spring break if production is delayed.
Greenwood Elementary has a completed temporary playground and a new septic system approved by the Department of Environmental Protection; district staff announced a Greenwood groundbreaking ceremony set for Friday at 10 a.m. Administrators said site contractors have brought in substantial fill and continue grading work.
Board members thanked facilities staff and noted a webcam will be shared once installed.
