Clark County Historic Preservation Commission opens Stenger House hearing, continues it to Dec. 4

The Clark County Historic Preservation Commission opened a hybrid public hearing Nov. 6 on a certificate of appropriateness application for proposed exterior work at the Stenger House, then voted to continue the matter to the commission’s Dec. 4 meeting to allow staff and the applicant time to provide additional information.
Chair Julie Vaughn said the hearing would be opened and continued under RCW 42.30.100 so public testimony provided tonight could be entered into the record and considered at the continued hearing. City development-review manager Jason Norts told the commission that staff had requested more materials and that, given timing and workload, continuing the item would allow commissioners adequate time to review the new material.
Resident Kelly Putney addressed the commission in support of the volunteers working on the Stenger House: “I’m here basically to give the support to our working volunteers of the Stenger House,” Putney said. After public comment, Commissioner Andy Gregg moved to continue the hearing; Commissioner Morgan Frazier seconded. Staff conducted a roll-call vote; commissioners recorded ayes and staff announced “6 in favor.”
Why it matters: a continuance preserves public testimony while giving the commission and staff time to evaluate any additional structural, material, or design documentation the applicant provides; the Dec. 4 session will be the next opportunity for substantive commissioner questions and a decision.
What comes next: the hearing record remains open; commissioners asked that new documents be added to the record ahead of the Dec. 4 continued hearing so all members have time to review them before discussion and any future vote.
