At a Dec. 3 study session, city staff presented an honorary street designation application requesting the name Denisha D. Staple Way for a segment of Kenwood Road between William Street and John Street. Staff reported the application, submitted Oct. 12, 2024, complied with the city—s honorary street designation policy and asked council for direction on preparing a resolution.
Several residents and family members spoke in support. Dijon, who submitted the application, said the designation would "be a good thing in the community to show impact" and honor the young woman—s legacy. Other speakers, including community leaders and family members, urged the council to approve the designation and noted its symbolic importance in remembering a life cut short.
Council members voted during the study session to direct staff to prepare a resolution to place on a future regular meeting agenda. Because this was a study session, no final council roll-call vote on the designation occurred at the Dec. 3 meeting.
Staff said they would return the prepared resolution to a regular meeting for a formal vote and would provide notice to the family and applicant regarding timing.
