Students gain approval for Kennett Film Society club and multiple international trips

Teacher Bob Sokash outlined a World War II educational trip for 2026 that will focus on resistance and remembrance with stops in Berlin, Dresden, Prague and Krakow (including Auschwitz). He listed a program price of $4,971 per student and said families can use a 20-month payment plan. Board members and the superintendent discussed fundraising and foundation/business partner donations to support students who cannot afford the trip; the motion to approve the trip carried.
World language teacher Martha Carletti proposed two trips to support the French program: an immersion week in Nice (family homestay with school mornings; estimated cost about $3,600 if the minimum participant threshold is met) and a shorter four-day Quebec trip by bus estimated to be less expensive if enough students participate. Carletti described fundraising ideas including T-shirt sales and parent events. The board approved both trips and encouraged efforts to make them accessible to a broader range of students.
Board members asked for further outreach to identify students with financial need and for administrators to coordinate with the foundation and business partners to identify donors.
Next steps: club sponsors will work with administration to finalize oversight and vetting procedures; trip leaders will coordinate registration, payment options and any scholarship/fundraising efforts.
