New educational-equity policy proposed to meet grant audit requirements and set district priorities

Dr. Heather Collins, director of teaching and learning, presented a new Policy 832 establishing an educational-equity framework for the district. Collins said the policy was prompted by findings in the district's consolidated-grant audit and by state guidance.
"Policy 832 is being proposed as a new policy; the district currently does not have this in place," Collins told the committee. She described obligations the policy will create: an annual equity audit, a required equity action plan to be reviewed by an equity stakeholder group, and an annual superintendent update to the board and community that will include disaggregated student-achievement indicators and resource-allocation reporting.
Collins said the policy will require the district to define terms, prioritize multiple pathways to success, promote culturally responsive curriculum and professional development, and commit to review and revision on an annual cycle. Board members generally praised the draft and noted it dovetails with other initiatives, including the district's multi-year MTSS strategic plan.
The committee asked staff to continue stakeholder engagement and to bring the policy forward with any necessary refinements. The presenter said PSBA model language informed the draft.
